Van der Graaf Generator gigs attended 1975-1978
With some help from friends, old diaries and Koen's gig list, I have managed to come up with the following tentative list of band concerts I attended. See also the Peter Hammill Solo Gigs page. |
27th July 1975; Victoria Palace, London. This was the first proper concert in the U.K. after the band re-formed. My diary entry merely says "An excellent concert". Went with Pat H, Trev and Koot, met up with Tim and Richard. |
30th August 1975; New Victoria Theatre, London. My diary entry says "They weren't as good as the first time". Went with Veronique, Twinx and Julie T. |
11th October 1975; University of East Anglia, Norwich, England (Godbluff tour). Diary comment: "VdGG were brilliant - it was all a bit much for me - it was the best weekend I've had for years". |
31st October 1975; Thames Poly, London. With Julie T and Christine. |
18th April 1976; Chalk Farm Roundhouse, London (Still Life tour). With Nick and Twinx. |
28th August 1976; Reading Festival. |
21st November 1976; Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London (World Record tour). Went with Twinx, Bob, Ian, and possibly Richard. I don't really remember this gig but Ian enjoys recounting the story of how I tried to convince them that the band wouldn't do an encore. Having not seen VdGG before (I had dragged them along) they stayed put but I was half way out the door when they reappeared! The encore was supposedly "When She Comes" but strangely this is missing from the private recording of the concert. The setlist was: Masks La Rossa Still Life A Place to Survive Lemmimgs Arrow Childlike Faith in Childhood's End Meurglys III Gog Sleepwalkers (When She Comes)?? |

15th January 1978; Marquee Club, Wardour St. London (Vital recording sessions) According to the Vital sleeve notes the album only contained recordings from the session of the 16th January. See Vital for more information. Went with Nick and Tim. |
