Canada 1974 - 1978 Peter Hammill played in Canada four times during this period, but only once with Van der Graaf Generator.
18th - 22nd April 1974 The concert that took place in Montreal at the Outremont on the 9th June 1978 was organised by Daniel Thérien, and it sounds as if there was a good backstage party afterwards! Here's a few pictures of the event, courtesy of Daniel.

Daniel Thérien is the one with beard and long hair on the right of the pictures above, and accompanied by PH, a record guy from GRT, the Manager of the Outremont, a Journalist and a friend. The Journalist took around a hundred photographs, one of which was used in a Quebec Rock magazine article:

Not surprisingly perhaps, because it was kept in Canada for several years, the Pawn Hearts Archive contains some Canada related material. In particular the following pictures from the December 1978 tour, where PH was accompanied by Graham Smith and Nic Potter. See the Live List for more information, including pictures of the band on stage, tickets, adverts and articles.
According to Daniel Thérien, who was there, the concert planned in Chicoutimi for the 4th December was cancelled at the door because the band's 'plane couldn't leave Montreal due to a snowstorm. Daniel and friends who had travelled 600km to be there had to travel to Sherbrooke for the next gig, which wasn't well attended but a concert to remember, with an amazing "Refugees" as encore. The Le Plateau gig was added as compensation later in the tour. |
